How fast is your website on a phone?

Not on your office wifi with the page already cached — on a mid-range phone over a normal mobile connection, from cold. That is the version your customers get.

Runs Google PageSpeed Insights on a simulated mid-range phone. Takes 15–30 seconds. No email required, and nothing is stored.

Common questions

Is this really free?

Yes, and there is no email form. It runs Google PageSpeed Insights against your page and shows you what comes back. I built it because I need the same measurements when I look at a site, and there was no reason to keep it to myself.

Why is it slower than other speed tests?

Because it runs a real browser rather than pinging your server. Google loads your page on a simulated mid-range phone over a throttled connection and records what happens, which takes fifteen to thirty seconds. That is also why the result reflects what a customer experiences rather than what your office wifi shows you.

My site feels fine on my phone. Why does it score badly?

Your phone has the site cached and is probably on wifi. This test starts cold, on a mid-range Android, on a throttled mobile connection, which is closer to a customer standing outside deciding whether to wait. The filmstrip is the part worth looking at: it shows exactly how long the screen stays blank.

What counts as a good score?

Google treats 90 and above as good, 50 to 89 as needing work, and below 50 as poor. Scores move a few points between runs, so treat anything within about five points as the same result rather than a change.

Do you store my website address?

No. The check runs and the result goes straight back to your browser. Results for a given address are cached for an hour so a repeat check is instant, and that is the only place your URL goes.

Want the problems fixed rather than just listed?

I build fast websites for small businesses around Sacramento. If your score came back badly, I can tell you what it would take to fix it — and if your site is already fine, I will tell you that instead.
